Welcome to Special Children Center!
Special Children Center (SCC) is nationally known for its expertise in working with children with a wide range of challenges. SCC specializes in all types of children’s therapy, and is located only a short distance from the Twin Cities in beautiful Hudson, Wisconsin.
The term "children’s therapy" can be used to describe therapy caring for children with many challenges, including Attention Deficit Disorder, dyslexia, sensory processing and other sensory issues, oppositional and defiant disorders, head trauma, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and Autism. Therapy for these issues can sometimes be hard to find, but at SCC, we offer both traditional and nontraditional intensive therapy, and alternative programs to help facilitate a child's development. We also provide education for parents and caregivers - helping them understand why the child’s development isn’t going as planned and giving them tools to help the child progress.
We take great pride in the range of programs we offer and in the success we've had for the past 20 years in helping children reach their innate potential. Please feel free to contact our therapists or request a tour of our facility to better understand our approach to your child's therapy program.
We are very excited to announce that we are changing our name!
For over 20 years we have specialized in pediatric services; this will not change. However, it is our vision as an organization to provide our unique services to our clients across their life span. Underscoring this effort is our movement away from our old name, which does not adequately express our desire to serve people of all ages.
We feel it is important to stay current in our use of language and have decided to move away from the use of the word “special” in our name.
Special Children Center is connected to the name Avanti through our weeklong summer camp program for children with sensory integrative dysfunction: Camp Avanti St. Croix. Avanti is an Italian word that means “forward.” We believe that our steps to serve all ages and our commitment to our community; evidenced by the construction of our new state of the art building, are giant steps forward.

Directions to our new facility: From Minnesota: Take I-94 to Exit 4 (2nd exit past the Carmichael exit). Turn left and go north past TA SuperCenter. Take a right on Brakke Drive (before the BP gas station) and follow the curve to the left. Take the first left into our parking lot.
From Eastern Wisconsin: Take I-94 to Exit 4, turn right and go north past TA SuperCenter. Take a right on Brakke Drive (before the BP gas station) and follow the curve to the left. Take the first left into our parking lot.
We anticipate to be in our temporary location until September 10th, 2010 while our new building is constructed. You and your children can see the progress of our new building as it is located directly across the street from our temporary location.
